چکیده

Introduction Unsafe behaviours are said to both directly and indirectly contribute to 90% of all workplace accidents and incidents (Holnagel, 1993). Given the importance of behavioural patterns in the accident process it is not surprising that safety improvements focused on individual behaviours have acquired popularity in the development of safety performance (Cooper et al. 1994; Cox and Cox, 1996). However, the implementation and sustainability of such programmes have been variable and many successful programmes that have reportedly improved health and safety performance have seemingly lost momentum (HSE, 2002).

The nuclear industry's transition to risk-informed regulation and operation in the United States

This paper summarizes a study of the transition of the United States nuclear industry from a prescriptive regulatory structure to a more risk informed approach to operations and regulations. The transition occurred over a 20 yr period in which gradual changes were made in the fundamental regulations and to the approach to nuclear safety and operations. While the number of actual regulatory chan...

urrent status and technical description of Chinese 2 × 250 MWth HTR - PM emonstration plant

After the nuclear accidents of Three Mile Island and Chernobyl the world nuclear community made great efforts to increase research on nuclear reactors and to develop advanced nuclear power plants with much improved safety features. Following the successful construction and a most gratifying operation of the 10MWth high-temperature gas-cooled test reactor (HTR-10), the Institute of Nuclear and N...

Safety aspects of nuclear plants coupled with seawater desalination units

The nuclear plants for desalination to be built in the future will have to meet the standards of safety required for the best nuclear power plants currently in operation or being designed. Some specific characteristics of desalination plants such as siting and coupling require particular consideration from a safety point of view, and further safety studies will be needed when the type and size ...

Application of Information Theories to Safety of Nuclear Power Plants

It is widely recognized that safety of nuclear power plants is a problem of great relevance for society. If it is not properly managed, the increase in power and complexity of the plants can lead to a catastrophic release of energy and dangerous materials and pollute the environment. To prevent this to happen, the nuclear community always put significant efforts into finding new ways to improve...
